A partial snapshot captures the backup progress made at specific points of the backup process until the job has secured all the data available and at that point the system will create a complete snapshot. Partial snapshots are an important mechanism in the solution as it allows customers to increase backup coverage gradually, yet provides them with restore capabilities for data that has already been captured. This is especially important during the initial backup, but also when a significant amount of data gets added to the primary system (for example, because of migration). Keepit will perform a series of partial snapshots until the entire dataset is backed up.

Keepit displays partial snapshots so you have immediate access to the data that has been backed up. You can use them to restore and import data, but you must remember that they may not contain all the data you want. You can check that the data you want is in the snapshot by browsing the connector using a particular snapshot.

Please also note that when Keepit is creating partial snapshots, files that are modified or added to the backup set may not be up-to-date or present when the initial backup completes. However, they will be backed up as soon as the next complete snapshot is made.
