Import supports only account-related data. This means that Keepit can import Exchange (Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Tasks) and OneDrive data, but NOT Groups & Teams, SharePoint, and Public Folders.

Due to Microsoft's file naming practices, import behavior works differently depending on the type of data you are importing.

OneDrive

OneDrive data has file names in Microsoft, which means during importing it is possible for there to be duplicate files. This is when a file with the same name as the imported file already exists in the target account.

If you are importing duplicate files that have different file content, you can choose one of the following options:

  • Rename duplicate files: This will rename the files you are importing. For example, importing a duplicate of “filename.png” will automatically create a duplicate file called “filename(1).png”.
  • Overwrite duplicate files: The imported files will simply overwrite the files that are already there. This means you will lose the latest changes to the files in the target account.
  • Skip duplicate files: The imported files will be skipped. This option is useful when trying to restore data back to a location where only a few files are required.

If you are importing duplicate files that have the same file content, then the files are skipped regardless of which of the above-mentioned options you choose.

If the imported file is not already found in the target account, then it will be created.

Microsoft Exchange Data

All Microsoft Exchange (Mail, Contacts, Tasks, Calendar) data items have their own unique IDs. Each time a user imports one of these items, Microsoft gives it a new ID. This means there will never be duplicate files.

Accordingly, if you choose to rename or overwrite duplicate files, they will just be added to the target folder.

If you choose to skip duplicate files, then what happens depends on whether you are transferring data between one and the same tenant or different tenants:

  • If you are importing data from a history snapshot back to the same tenant, the files will be skipped.
  • If you are importing data into a different tenant, then the items will just be added to the target folder.

If the imported file is not already found in the target account, then it will be created.
