Import supports only account-related data. This means that Keepit can import Exchange (Calendar, Contacts, Mail, Tasks) and OneDrive data, but not Groups & Teams, SharePoint, and Public Folders.

The in-place method is automatically selected when you set up an import. Imported data is always brought back to Microsoft to the location corresponding to the data type.

When importing items to a location that already contains the same items, you will be asked how to handle duplicates.

Import behavior works differently depending on the type of data you are importing.

Exchange

When importing Exchange items to a location that already contains the same items but with different timestamps, you can choose to either rename or skip duplicate items.

All Microsoft Exchange (Mail, Contacts, Tasks, Calendar) data items have their own unique IDs. Each time you import one of these items, Microsoft gives it a new ID.

Accordingly, if you choose to rename duplicate items, they will just be added to the target folder.

If you choose to skip duplicate items, then what happens depends on whether you are transferring data between the same user or between different users (on the same or different connectors):

  • If you are importing data from a historical snapshot back to the same user, the items will be skipped.
  • If you are importing data from a different user, the items will be added to the target folder.

Imported items not already in the target account will be created.

Items present in the user account but not in the snapshot you are importing from will not be deleted

OneDrive

When importing OneDrive items to a location that already contains items with the same filename but with different timestamps, you have the following options:

  • Skip duplicate items: The imported items will be skipped.
  • Rename duplicate items: The imported items will be renamed. For example, importing a duplicate of “filename.png” will automatically create a duplicate file called “filename (1).png”.
  • Overwrite existing items: The imported items will be added to OneDrive as new versions of the items.

If you import duplicate items with the same timestamps, the items will be skipped regardless of which option you choose.

Imported items not already in the target account will be created.

Items present in the user account but not in the snapshot you are importing from will not be deleted.
