In our Microsoft 365 connector, we back up user-related data (Exchange, OneDrive, and Teams chats) and shared data (Exchange Public Folders, SharePoint, and Groups & Teams data).
We back up the data of all users that are selected in the backup configuration. Please note that we do not back up any data of guest users and accordingly these users do not appear in the backup configuration.
Additionally, we support the backup of all file types and extensions across the Microsoft 365 environment.

Limitations
Microsoft 365 Government Cloud
We do not support the backup of Microsoft 365 Government Community Cloud (GCC, GCC High, or similar) tenants.
Exchange Public Folders
We do not back up posts created in Outlook Online or Desktop.
Groups & Teams
The backup of Channel posts may not work for some customers. For details, click here.
Teams Chats
- Microsoft's API for retrieving chats returns all chats, including chats deleted by users. Therefore, your Keepit backup of private chats may contain data that the user deleted.
- Currently, chats can only be previewed and downloaded. A future release will add support for restoring chats.
- We do not support the backup of chats if the chat owner is from another tenant.
Teams Chats Performance and Throttling
With the recent release of our services (version 9.18.1) aimed at improving the backup performance of Teams Chats, significant strides have been made in enhancing the efficiency and reliability of our backup processes. However, it is important to note that despite these improvements, there are still certain limitations imposed by Microsoft’s throttling mechanisms which may impact the frequency and duration of backup operations, particularly for large enterprise customers.
For enterprises with extensive chat histories with large volumes (millions) of chat messages, the backup processes may be subject to throttling by Microsoft.
This throttling can impede our ability to perform daily backups of Teams Chats data. The duration of backup jobs is directly influenced by the size of the customer's environment and the intensity of Teams Chat usage. Consequently, the Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) for Teams Chat data backups may vary.
Customer Advisory
We advise our customers to follow the instructions provided in our latest release to benefit from the performance enhancement made. Given the variability in backup job durations and potential throttling impacts, we advise customers to consider these factors when planning their data recovery strategies. While we strive to provide the most efficient and comprehensive backup services, the inherent limitations imposed by external throttling are beyond our control.
Service Commitment
Our commitment remains to continually optimize backup performance and mitigate any limitations to the best of our ability. We encourage customers to reach out to our support team for assistance and guidance in setting up the service.
