Every Office 365 Group has a team site in SharePoint. A group can also have a team in Teams, which is manually created.

Keepit backs up all groups, team sites, and Teams data. All of this data can be restored except for certain team data.

The following Groups & Teams data is backed up:

  • Conversations
  • Calendar
  • Planner
  • Files
  • Notebook (only if SharePoint backup is enabled)
  • Team sites (only if SharePoint backup is enabled)

The following Teams data is backed up but cannot be restored:

  • Channel chat messages
  • Wiki pages

This Teams data, however, can be recovered by copy-pasting data out and downloading raw files.

In Keepit, groups and teams data is backed up in the Groups & Teams backup, while team sites are backed up in the SharePoint backup. This means that if you want to backup a group's team site and its notebook, the SharePoint backup must be enabled in addition to the Groups & Teams backup.

Accordingly, what is restored from the Groups & Teams folder depends on whether or not you have the SharePoint backup enabled.

  • If SharePoint is enabled, you are backing up team sites and associated notebooks. This means you will see links to them in your Groups & Teams backup.

  • If SharePoint is not enabled, you are not backing up team sites and their associated notebooks. This means you will not see links to SharePoint (team sites) and notebook.
